TIYUMTABA INTERGRATED DEVELOPMENTASSOCIATION (TIDA) –

 is a charitable non-governmental organization based in the Northern Region of Ghana. The headquarters of the organization is located at the fourth road of the Russian bungalow off the Nim avenue in Tamale with project office in the Nanumba, Zadzugu/Tatale, Yendi, and Savelugu/Nanton District and operates in (20) peri-urban communities of the Tamale Metropolis.

MISSION:

The organization mission is to bring development to the door step of the less privileged and deprived communities through education and advocacy in the areas of peace building, water and sanitation, health care delivery, livelihood and enterprise development, capacity building, and assisting rural communities to access development projects.

VISION:

The vision of TIDA is to provide and equip communities with the needed skills, knowledge and facilities to enable them brake through the vicious cycle of poverty and improve their living condition and uplift their standard of living.

HISTORY:

The formation of TIDA was necessitated by the growing need for local initiative and effort to facilitate the processes of achieving and sustaining lasting peace and development in the Northern Region after being devastated by ethnic conflict. TIYUMTABA is a Nanumba word that literally means Lets love each other. The founding members responded to the situation by rallying themselves as well as the key community opinion leaders together to form this association (TIDA) to play the facilitation role in peace building and human/community development in the region..

ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Increased in grassroots structures.-Increased in membership of the grassroots structures from 20 to352 people from 28 July - Dec 04 .Increased in grassroots structures from 2-28-Organized two community educational for a on the right to cast votes (attendance 1,080 participants). Identified 28 community volunteers, who serve as traditional contact offices for 28 communities.-Collaborating often with other NGO partners to share ideas, networking for effective harmonizing of programmes considering the few resources available.-Had organized business men/women to dialogue with the Tamale Metropolitan Assemble as a means of presenting their needs and grievances.-Putting in place 3 volunteer staff in the secretariat that assists in the day to day activities in the secretariat.-Linked up with selected partners in the public sector and civil society organizations.-Had achieved organizing women from communities into women in peace building initiatives.

TARGET BENEFICIARIES:

TIDA`s programmes are targeted towards poverty reduction and our focus is on economically active but poor in society with emphasis on projects that women and children to make them respect in society, economically active, participate in decision-making, access to health service to improve their living standard. TIDA has over the year’s undertaken developmental programmes in about (1200) communities through capacity building, training in ICT/Batik Making, mobilization and animation of communities, formation and training of Water and Sanitation Committees to own and manage their water and sanitation facilities.TIDA has in its employment a core staff of (15) with six other (6) volunteer staff with varied experience ranging from community animation and mobilization, credit officers, Hygiene Educators, Programme officer and a fundraising officer.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

ØTo promote sustainable potable water and sanitation conditions in rural communities.

ØImprovement of health service in disadvantaged rural communities.

ØTo empower women groups economically through the provision of micro finance scheme.

ØSignificant improvement of the youth occupationally through capacity building/ICT.

ØPromotion of good governance

ØFacilitates Para-legal activities to inform citizens about their fundamental human rights.

ØTO link rural communities with donor agencies for community development projects.

STRENGTHS

The following are the bases upon which TIDA is operating;1.Skills in community mobilization and entering techniques.2.Developing of good leadership drive in local communities.3.Competent and skills project staff4.Five (5) years of experience in community mobilization activities.5.Lobbying and negotiating skills6.Good networking and information sharing skills.7.Skills in fund raising activities.

WEAKNESS:-

1.Rented office accommodation.

2.Inadequate office equipment.

3.Inadequate motor bikes and vehicles for day to day activities

MANAGEMENT AND STAFFING:-

TIDA has in place a (9) nine member governing board that set policies and provides guidelines for project implementation. The executive Committee is also made up of (5) five persons, this includes the Executive Director, The project Manager, Project coordinator, Administrative/Finance Officer and Executive secretary.

LEGAL STATUS:

TIDA was formed in 1990 and was formally registered with the Registrar General’s Department No C- 49,738 in May 1993 and with the Department of Social Welfare No DSW. 647 in 1995.
